Clint Eastwood: I Have No RNC Speech Regrets - iVillage - Terri Schwartz:

September 19, 2012 - "Clint Eastwood really could not care less about the world's response to his Republican National Convention speech.  Eastwood recently went on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.... DeGeneres almost immediately brought up the topic of the RNC, asking if Eastwood had been fazed by the negative response to his appearance.

"'No,' he answered.... He continued, 'It was an interesting reaction, actually. The Democrats who were watching thought I was going senile and the Republicans knew I was!'

All joking aside, it turns out that Eastwood doesn't really align himself with the Republican values that have been present in recent years. The A Fist Full of Dollars star identifies as a Libertarian, a political party that, as he says, has the mentality of 'leave everybody alone.'

"'Libertarian values, that's where Republicans used to be when they were saving money,' he explained to DeGeneres. 'A Libertarian means you're sort of socially liberal, leave everybody alone, but you believe in fiscal responsibility and you believe in governments staying out of your life. I still believe in that, and when I was 21 years old and started voting, I sort of became Republican because that's the way they were thinking. In later years, in the last few years, both sides have just spent like drunken sailors -- not to insult the Navy in any way."
