BC Libertarians have candidate in Maple Ridge

New candidate in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows - Maple Ridge News - Phil Melynchuk:

March 6, 2017 - "There's a new candidate seeking to win the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows riding in the May 9 provincial election.

"Bryton Cherrier is running for the B.C. Libertarian Party to get out the party's message of maximum personal freedom and minimal personal taxes.

"I mostly wanted to get into politics in the last one and a half years," after seeing the rise of the NDP in Alberta, Cherrier said.

"The B.C. Libertarian Party wants to allow private medical insurance, education vouchers (which allow parents to allocate provincial funds to schools of their choice) and lower income taxes, while also eliminating the carbon tax.

"The party also thinks housing prices can be dropped by allowing higher density in single-family areas.

"'Right now, we just have two parties that do not represent economic conservatism,' said Cherrier. 'We do.'

"Both the Liberals and NDP represent big business, while the Libertarian party is grassroots, he added.

"Cherrier is a high-function autistic and wants to run to provide a role model for other people with autism."

"Even if he's not elected, he's hoping that his campaign will encourage others, 'pass on the torch, so to say. Liberate themselves to do something.'"
