November 17, 2024 - "Alberta has become the first non-U.S. [political entity] to join a United States energy pact featuring 12 states that had already signed onto the coalition. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith made the announcement Thursday, personally thanking Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu for inviting her, along with President-elect Donald Trump. Smith also thanked the other ten governors involved.

Louisiana Senate bill nullifies UN/WHO mandates

The Louisiana Senate has unanimously passed Bill SB-133, which provides that "No rule, regulation, fee, tax, policy or mandate of any kind of the [World Health Organization] WHO, [United Nations] UN and the [World Economic Forum] WEF shall be enforced or implemented by the state."

March 29, 2024 - "The State of Louisiana Senate unanimously passed a bill that would ban all influence from the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations (UN) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). 

"International organizations, especially since the pandemic, have gained an increasingly dominant role in many of its 194 member countries’ policy making, including in Canada. 

"Bill SB-133 on Public Health and International Organizations, a law that proposes 'that the WHO, the UN and the WEF shall have no jurisdiction or power within the state of Louisiana,' passed ... the senate by a vote of 37 to 0 Monday. 'No rule, regulation, fee, tax, policy or mandate of any kind of the WHO, UN and the WEF shall be enforced or implemented by the state of Louisiana or any agency, department, board, commission, political subdivision, governmental entity of the state, parish, municipality, or any other political entity,' the bill states.... 

"On March 11, the bill was introduced in the Senate, read a second time, and referred to the Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and International Affairs. After the unanimous vote Monday, it was sent to the House....

"Canadian Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis is pushing for similar steps to be taken in Canada. Lewis launched petition e-4623, in opposition to the WEF’s Agenda 2030 and for Canada to exit the WHO and UN. It garnered 90,089 signatures by its February 7 deadline and was presented to the House of Commons March 22. 

"The WHO’s Pandemic Treaty, proposed last year, has a deadline of May 2024. Canada will then either commit to the treaty or not. However, there still has been no parliamentary review or even discussion of Canada’s position or commitments to an international pandemic treaty, according to Lewis.... The legally binding treaty gives power to the WHO over global health management of future pandemics — according to what the organization classifies as a pandemic. In such an event, the WHO would require countries to implement its designated response measures. 

"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government earlier released a statement regarding the development of the WHO’s Pandemic Treaty. 'Canada is working closely with other countries and international partners to strengthen global pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. This includes the development of a new WHO convention, agreement or international instrument,' it said, adding that Canada has been offered the opportunity to contribute to the drafting process.... Canadian officials will then participate in the vote on the final draft at the World Health Assembly (WHA) meeting in May 2024.

"Last year Trudeau was questioned on the government’s engagement with the WHO on drafting these International Health Regulations amendments. Utah legislators unveil "Right to Try" drug bill

January 13, 2015 - "A handful of Utah lawmakers on Tuesday unveiled a proposal that would make Utah the latest state to let terminally-ill patients obtain experimental drugs that have not been federally approved.

"So-called 'Right to Try' legislation has been pushed by those who say the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval process takes too long.

"Huntsville Republican Rep. Gage Froerer held a press conference at Utah's Capitol on Tuesday to announce the bill he'll sponsor in the upcoming legislative session.

Not all patients can qualify for experimental drug trials through the FDA, and this will allow patients and doctors to cut through red tape, Froerer said....

"The Goldwater Institute, a libertarian think tank based in Arizona, is pushing the issue in Utah and other states. 'Right to Try' laws have already been approved in five states: Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Missouri and Michigan. Lawmakers in Kansas and Wyoming are considering similar provisions this year."

LP House candidate survives 2nd ballot challenge

September 9, 2014 - "Libertarian candidate Samuel Davenport overcame a second effort to disqualify him from the 2nd Congressional District race Tuesday. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeal ruled 8-3 that the challenge to his candidacy, filed by Eliza Eugene and Lawrence Galle, had no legal merit, affirming the decision of Civil District Court Judge Lynn Luker.

"Davenport greeted the ruling with jubilation and a challenge to incumbent Cedric Richmond, D-New Orleans. 'My opponent, instead of trying to bully himself an election, should just let the people decide,' he said. He encouraged his supporters to help him win another victory, this one at the ballot box on Nov. 4....

"Eugene and Galle's objection to Davenport's candidacy was made predominantly on the grounds that Davenport filled out the wrong address on his forms to register for the ballot. Davenport listed his domicile as 317 St. James Place in LaPlace, where he said he plans to move at the end of the month from a Metairie apartment where he currently lives. The LaPlace residence is in Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District; the Metarie apartment is not.

"The qualifying form implies that residency in the district is required, as it is for state offices. However, federal rules do not require congressional candidates to live within the district that they wish to represent, and the 4th Circuit Court's majority said in its opinion that the state has no authority to impose additional requirements."

"The Louisiana petition has collected more than 12,300 signatures in four days. A separate effort from Texas has 15,400 supporters.

August 22, 2012 — "GOP officials and the Mitt Romney campaign have cut a deal with Texas Rep. Ron Paul's campaign to allow some — though not all — of Paul's delegates from Louisiana and Massachusetts to be seated at the Republican National Convention. The status of Maine's delegates remains unsettled ... but negotiations were continuing.

"Pro-Paul delegations from Iowa, Nevada and Minnesota have already been credentialed, without challenge, for the convention.

"Romney and the RNC had been pursuing a legal strategy that appeared designed to prevent Paul from coming into the convention with 'the support of a plurality of the delegates from each of five or more states'.... Reaching that threshold, according to the party rulebook, would allow Paul delegates to place the longtime congressman's name into nomination during the convention and the candidate to make a speech. Paul has not sought to be nominated from the floor.

June 2, 2012 - "The Louisiana State Republican Convention descended into chaos Saturday morning, with several delegates being arrested and the convention chairman being thrown to the ground by police. Sources report that state party officials panicked when it became clear that Ron Paul delegates commanded a decisive majority of the delegates on the floor – at least 111 of 180 (62%)....

"When Alex Helwig, the newly elected Rules Committee chair, rose to address the delegation, [Roger] Villere [Chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party] ordered him removed from the floor. Video footage shows Shreveport police dragging Mr. Helwig out of the room.... At this point, a motion was made to elect a new convention chairman. Henry Herford, Jr., was elected by an overwhelming majority. Nevertheless, Mr. Villere – who had appointed himself the convention chairman – refused to relinquish control of the gathering.... Mr. Villere and state party officials then ordered police to attack Mr. Herford."

May 31, 2012 - "Washington - Rick Santorum Thursday sent Louisiana GOP Chairman Roger Villere a list of 20 'bona fide Santorum supporters' who he would like to see Saturday's Republican State Convention in Shreveport name to fill the ten delegate and ten alternate slots he won in his overwhelming victory in the state's March 24 primary. Santorum's letter was an effort to forestall any move by Ron Paul supporters, who, by virtue of their triumph in the party's sparsely attended April 28 caucuses, will control events in Shreveport, to name Paul loyalists to fill the Santorum slots at the national convention in Tampa....

Noting that he won 49 percent of the primary vote, Santorum wrote, 'T'hough I have suspended the campaign, I have no intention of releasing delegates before the Republican National Convention'....

But at Saturday's state convention, at which the delegates to he national convention will be chosen, Paul forces will control 111 of the 180 delegates, according to Charlie Davis, who is directing the Paul effort in Louisiana, 'We'll have a clear majority on every committee and in every way possible,' said Davis.

"It is possible they could choose Paul backers to be Santorum delegates. They would vote for Santorum if he has not released them before the balloting, but support Paul in his efforts to otherwise influence the convention."

Ron Paul Wins Louisiana Caucus

Wins four and a half of six congressional district caucuses, securing 111 of 150 or 74 percent of delegates elected yesterday to the state convention

LAKE JACKSON, Texas, Apr 29, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Supporters of 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul won yesterday's Louisiana caucus, securing an overwhelming majority of winnable delegates to the June Republican state convention that will affect the weight of the Paul delegation to the August Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Preliminary results from the Louisiana Republican Party indicate that Ron Paul supporters won majorities in Congressional Districts 1, 2, 5, and 6, with a narrow decision having occurred in District 4. This means Ron Paul supporters won about four and a half of the six Congressional District caucus conventions held yesterday.

In each CD the top 25 delegates will go to the state convention on June 2nd in Shreveport. Yesterday, 111 out of 150 or 74 percent of delegates elected today were in fact Ron Paul delegates. The Louisiana state GOP soon will award 30 additional delegates.

A "conservative slate" ran a partially combined slate with establishment-moderate Mitt Romney in CDs 1, 2 and 4. In each of those districts Ron Paul supporters required more votes than all of their opponents combined. Remarkably, supporters of the 12-term Congressman from Texas accomplished this in CDs 1 and 2, but fell just short of this in CD 4, which is why the decision was split.

Taken together, victories across four and half CDs mean that Ron Paul supporters are likely to control the outcome of the state convention in June.

To be sure, a win on this scale gives Ron Paul supporters a majority of yesterday's elected delegates and the ability to choose most of the at-large delegates, as well as the three National Delegates from CDs 1, 2, 5, and 6.

The Ron Paul campaign's Louisiana State Director Pete Chamberlain said of the victory, "Yesterday's result shows the changing dynamic among grassroots conservative activists dedicated to promoting a Republican platform that adheres to the Constitutional values Dr. Paul represents.
