Canada's Privy Council called for reports of Covid-vax harms to be downplayed

In May 2021, Canada's Privy Council issued a secret memo calling for news reports of injuries or death from Covid vaccines be "carefully managed" so as not to "shake public confidence" in the products.

Privy Council advocated downplaying COVID vaccine injuries or deaths | Toronto Sun | Postmedia News:

June 6, 2023 - "A secret Privy Council office memo recommended that any COVID vaccine-related injuries or deaths be carefully managed with 'winning communication strategies' as to not 'shake public confidence,' according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

"The May 2021 memo released through access-to-Information legislation came five months after the Department of Health licensed the first Pfizer-BioNTech pandemic vaccine.

"'Events related to a COVID-19 vaccine may be minor or severe,' said the memo called 'Testing Behaviourally-Informed Messaging In Response To Severe Adverse Events Following Immunization.' 'News reports of adverse events following immunization and the government’s response to them have strong potential to influence public confidence in vaccines and their safety.' The memo also suggested skewing stats to minimize the impact of vaccine-related deaths or injuries....

"The Public Health Agency said of the 97.6 million vaccine doses administered at the time of the report, there were 20,428 'serious adverse event reports.' The reports included laboured breathing and heart attacks (55 reports), kidney damage (78), spontaneous abortions (87), facial paralysis (187), strokes (281), deaths (427), blood clots (848) and incidents of heart inflammation (1,153). A federal compensation fund to date has paid out millions on injury and death claims.

"'Of the 427 death reports, it was not possible to assess causality for 112 reports due to missing information,' said the agency in a statement. A separate $75 million Vaccine Injury Support Program received 1,299 claims due to vaccine-related deaths and injuries with a total 50 claims paid to date, totalling nearly $2.8 million."

The managerial elite is now the credentialed elite

Introduction: Managerial state | Wikipedia:

November 24, 2023 - "The 'managerial state' is a concept used in critiquing modern procedural democracy. The concept is used largely, though not exclusively, in paleolibertarian, paleoconservative, and anarcho-capitalist critiques of late modern state power in Western democracies. Theorists Samuel T. Francis and Paul Gottfried, developing ideas inspired by the analytical framework of James Burnham, say this is an ongoing regime that remains in power, regardless of what political party holds a majority.... Variations on the concept include the therapeutic managerial state, welfare–warfare state, administrative state, and polite or soft totalitarianism. There is significant overlap between the concepts of the managerial state and the deep state....

"Theorists of the managerial state claim this constellation of factors tends towards the efflux of totalitarianism.... Francis, following James Burnham, said that under this historical process, 'law is replaced by administrative decree, federalism is replaced by executive autocracy, and a limited government replaced by an unlimited state.' It acts in the name of abstract goals, such as freedom, equality or positive rights, and uses its claim of moral superiority, power of taxation and wealth redistribution to keep itself in power.

The Managerial Class has been replaced by a Credentialist Class | X | Nikolaos:

November 26, 2023: "Burnham & Francis’s theory of the Managerial Revolution needs [to be] updated. The Managerial Class has been replaced by a Credentialist Class.

"Managerial Elites derive their power from technical ability to manage systems; our current elites clearly posses no such ability. At some point, technical managerial skill ceased to be the dominant trait selected for in the jungle of high power, and instead résumé-building, favor-brokering, and ideological-signaling skills gained favor. Notice job-hoppers and fail-uppers collecting badges and climbing higher up in the canopy everywhere you look? Snakes with poisoned fangs overtook the Foxes, who long ago displaced the Lions.

"Just as Lions sought to augment their power by leveraging Foxes but only ended up ceding power to Foxes, so too have Foxes given way to Snakes: leveraging their power with assets the new elites provided, the old elites were nevertheless usurped by the new until remnants of their authority began to dissolve in their hands like a crumbling sand castle.

"The Cathedral learned that it could launder credentials in much the same way the State learned it could launder currency: the Dollar and Diploma were once backed by something, but the elites entrusted to control these resources removed the gold which underpinned them and have instead been printing and giving them to friends in a patronage scheme, devaluing the assets to the price of paper and ink. But the illusion of value remains: they rule because they control the dollars and diplomas and if you disagree then they won’t give you any dollars or diplomas.

"One could argue that Credentialism is just a part or conclusion of Managerialism but I see two fundamental differences: 1) Managerial Elites offered a bold, aspirational vision for humanity. Scientific Utopianism was always fake, but at least it was gilded. The Credentialist Elites, on the other hand, have since the turn of the century offered no positive vision or ideal... 2) A veneer of competence and legitimacy covered Managerialism. When a Managerial Elite said 'The vaccine is safe and effective and will stop the spread,' you believed them and they were probably even right because they had to be competent to rise to power. Credentialist Elites offer no evidence of competence — in fact they have offered the opposite at every turn. They acknowledge things are changing for the worse, tell their clients to 'just suck it up', and shame or even criminalize those who won’t; Economic, social, and spiritual pillars now lie in ruin, and the new elites dance atop them in a way that the old wouldn’t dare; Order is spinning into chaos; The emperor has no clothes; The Narrative has been exposed as a lie — they know it, we know it, and they know that we know it.

"Maybe this is the logical conclusion of Managerialism, and the Managers have merely mutated. One thing is certain, anyways: these are not your grandfather’s elites. Kamala Harris doesn’t have technical managerial skills. Joe Biden doesn’t have technical managerial skills. Claudine Gay doesn’t have technical managerial skills. These elites were selected for their credentials: i.e. the titles they’ve held, the boxes they check, the favors they owe. You could argue they are mere puppets for the actual managerial elite. There are some competent managers in the machines behind them, yes, but their numbers dwindle. A new Type emerges, like a weed, everywhere....

"Like the Managerial Elite, the Credentialed are ten thousand tyrants protected behind an Ephel Duath of procedure and legal papers. But their power and legitimacy is oil drawn of a different well, and you can see very clearly how Leviathan’s engine runs differently for it. We ought to update our mental models accordingly."

'Can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-American,' says president of a nation founded by an insurrection

Note: this article was originally written as parody.

'You Can’t Be Pro-Insurrection And Pro-American,' Says President Of Nation Founded By An Insurrection | Babylon Bee:

July 27, 2022 · "The president shot back at what he called 'Super Duper Ultra MAGA Turbo Titans' Monday as he claimed 'you can't be pro-insurrection and pro-American' despite being the commander in chief of a nation founded by an insurrection.

"'Can you imagine Thomas Jefferson calling for the blood of tyrants? What if John Adams refused to pledge fealty to King George?' ... said the unblinking Biden, unflinching in the face of a citizenry increasingly questioning whether he is fit to be president.

"'Look, here's the deal, these Capitol insurrectioneserutes are traitors to American ideals because they wanted to challenge the results of an election,' Biden confirmed. 'I know this for a fact because a traitor is everyone who does not agree with me.'

"'We saw what happened,' he continued, referring to the events of January 6. 'Law enforcement agencies were speared with terrorist javelins dripping in blood, surrounded by carnage. These are all things that actually happened that I am not making up,' he added.

"At publishing time, White House officials had advised the president to stop saying 'we saw what happened' in regards to the January 6 capitol riots because he keeps describing events that never took place."

BC dad fights gag order re child's gender transition

A British Columbia father who was fined and imprisoned for breaking a court order against talking about his minor child's gender transition (which he had opposed) is going to court to have the order lifted.

BC father who tried to stop child's gender transition fights to make his name public | Western Standard | Lee Harding:

January 5, 2024 - "The BC father who went to court to try to stop his child’s gender transition is returning to the courts to allow his name to be made public. CD, as he was known in court documents, was sentenced to six months in prison and a $30,000 fine for breaking the court order preventing public dissemination of information about the case [see video]. The fine was lifted upon appeal and time served was deemed sufficient.

"A publication ban remains in effect in Canada, preventing anyone from calling CD by his real name. The doctors involved in the female-to-male transition of his child had their names concealed, allegedly to protect them from reprisals.

"In an email blast, former MP and Conservative Party leadership candidate Derek Sloan called CD’s legal journey 'a travesty of justice.' He launched a fundraising campaign to help CD go public once again.... 'Now he wants to go after the gag order forcing him to live an anonymous life,' ... Sloan wrote in an email blast. 'He deserves the right to talk about his experience, he deserves the right to have a real existence, unencumbered by draconian rules that could place him back in jail if he slips up on an interview or speaks out publicly about his experience'....

"James Kitchen, who was involved in the case early on as a lawyer for the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, is taking on CD’s cause once again. 'It's really a travesty that we can't even mention his name. It just goes to show how far the laws have come in Canada in the last half a decade. But what we need to do is take legal action,' said Kitchen in an online interview with Sloan. Because the child involved in the case is now an adult, Kitchen believes little reason remains to keep CD anonymous....

"'It's one thing to be censored so that you can't speak, but then to not even be able to … [use] your name and show your face is a whole other level. It really, really concerns me and disgusts me, and it should everybody, if you care at all, about what it means to live in a society worth living in,' Kitchen said. 'I don't care who the person is, I don't care what the situation is'....However, Kitchen also sympathized with CD’s personal cause to end the gender transitions of minors....

"Sloan said donations could be given by e-transfer to fundingthefight@proton.me with the password “freedom” and “CD” in the memo."

Higher taxes coming to Canada in 2024

Here's how much more Canadians will be paying in federal income tax hikes | National Post (stress added):

January 3, 2024 - "Nearly every Canadian will pay higher federal income taxes in 2024, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF). The federally incorporated, not-for-profit citizen’s group released its annual report on Tuesday highlighting the varied tax changes across Canada.... Citing data from the Fraser Institute, the report notes that the average Canadian family pays 46.1 per cent of its budget in taxes after adding up income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes and all other taxes.

  • In 2024, the maximum pensionable earnings subject to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) tax will increase, resulting in higher CPP contributions for both employers and employees. They will each pay $3,867, marking a $113 increase from the previous year for earnings of $68,500 or more.
  • Additionally, a new CPP2 tax will be introduced and applied to earnings between $68,500 and $73,200, with a maximum tax amount of $188. For those earning $73,200 or above, the total CPP contribution (including CPP and CPP2) will rise to approximately $4,055, an overall increase of $301....
  • In 2024, both the Employment Insurance (EI) tax rate and maximum insurable earnings in Canada will increase. Employees will pay $1,049 and employers $1,469 for EI. This is a rise of $47 for employees and $66 for employers, for those earning $63,200 or more.... Consequently, total federal payroll taxes (CPP and EI) will amount to $5,104 for workers earning $73,200 or above in 2024, while employers will be on the hook for $5,524.
  • Canada’s federal carbon tax will rise from $65 to $80 per tonne on April 1, 2024, increasing the carbon tax rate per litre of gas. This means a higher cost for fueling vehicles, with a family filling a 70-litre minivan expected to pay about $12.32 more per fill-up. Most provinces and territories will be subject to this increased rate, except Quebec. The government suggests a net benefit for families with rebates, but a Parliamentary Budget Officer report shows the carbon tax will cost the average household between $377 and $911 in 2024-25, even after the rebates.
  • A second carbon tax for fuel producers, introduced last year, could further raise fuel prices if producers don’t meet the requirements of the regulations. Citing the PBO’s analysis, the second carbon tax is expected to increase the price of gas by up to 17 cents per litre and cost the average household between $384 and $1,157 annually by 2030....
  • Beginning on April 1, 2024, Canadians will pay more for beer, wine and spirits. The 'alcohol escalator tax' will increase excise taxes in line with inflation. The escalator tax will see a 4.7 per cent rise in federal excise tax on these beverages, resulting in an estimated additional cost of about $100 million to taxpayers for the 2024-25 period. Per CTF, taxes already account for about half of the price of beer, 65 per cent of the price of wine and more than three quarters of the price of spirits.
  • Introduced last November, Canada’s new Digital Services Tax (DST) legislation is aimed at large online companies that host and generate marketplaces, social media platforms and online advertising revenue, like Google and Facebook. A previous PBO estimate found that DST will cost taxpayers $1.2 billion in 2024, but that revenue estimate depends on when the tax is implemented. Consumers should also expect to pay higher prices due to DST."

Milei asks Congress for dictatorial powers in Argentina

Argentina's newly-elected president Javier Melei has sent an omnibus reform bill to Congress (where his opponents hold a majority) which includes radical downsizing of the state, election reform, strictly limiting protests, and granting him dictatorial powers over "economic, financial, fiscal, pensions, defense, tariff, energy, health, administrative, and social matters until December 31, 2025."

Milei Brings His Chainsaw to Argentina's Regulatory State | Reason | Katarina Hall:

December 29, 2023 - "A little more than two weeks after assuming office, Argentinian President Javier Milei on Wednesday presented his most extensive reform bill to Congress aimed at deregulating South America's second-largest economy. The 351-page bill includes 664 articles aimed at deregulating and modifying laws pertaining to several sectors, including labor, commercial, real estate, aeronautics, and health. According to Milei, the omnibus bill contains two-thirds of all of his reform proposals....

"The first measure in the bill calls for the declaration of 'a public emergency in economic, financial, fiscal, pensions, defense, tariff, energy, health, administrative, and social matters until December 31, 2025.'  If approved, this would mean that Milei would have both the executive and legislative powers and would be able to decide on issues that are currently only regulated by Congress. The measure can be extended for up to two years.

"An entire chapter of the bill is dedicated to privatizing several state-owned companies in order to generate 'greater competition and economic efficiency, reduce the tax burden, improve the quality of services, promote private investment and professionalize management.' The bill mentions 41 companies it proposes to privatize, including the flagship airline Aerolíneas Argentinas, the oil company YFP, the country's largest bank, Banco de la Nación, the news agency Télam, the water company AYSA, the Argentine mint, and the country's rail system....

"The bill proposes to eliminate the primary elections and switch to a single-ballot system. It also seeks to move the chamber of deputies from a system that determines the number of representatives proportionally with the population to one of single-member constituencies.

"The bill also extends the government's new anti-protest measures, increasing penalties to up to four years in prison for those who use arms to disrupt public transportation and up to five years for those who 'direct, organize, or coordinate a meeting or demonstration that impedes, hinders or obstructs circulation.'

"Another chapter specifically addresses oil and seeks to ensure affordable oil supplies by leaving prices up to the market.,,, The new bill will not allow the executive branch 'to intervene, or fix, prices in the domestic market.' Other measures in the bill include the resale of sports tickets with 'no limit to the number of times such operation may be carried out;' the authorization of self-driving cars for individuals, passengers, or cargo; abolishing price ceilings on rent; easing price caps for private health services; and 'express divorces.'

"The measures will be reviewed by Congress during the extraordinary sessions that began this week and will last until January 31. But Milei's opposition, which holds the majority of seats in Congress, has vowed to not let the decree pass. Meanwhile, protests have sprung up in response to the omnibus bill. Several social organizations took to the streets in Buenos Aires, and Argentina's main labor union called for a general strike on January 24 in protest against the reforms."

Canada sees surging job growth in federal gov't

Federal public service new hires nearly tripled since 2015 | True North | Quinn Patrick:

January 2, 2024 - "Under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, jobs in the federal public sector have seen threefold growth since he was first elected in 2015, with record growth being reported last year.... The Public Service Commission of Canada’s annual report revealed that the federal public service grew to 274,218 employees by the end of the last fiscal year on March 31, 2023.

"According to the report, there was an increase of 6.5% year-over-year and a cumulative growth of 40.4% more than at the end of the 2014-2015 fiscal year. Figures from the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat corroborate the report, revealing that certain departments and agencies not included in the tally also grew by 30% over the same period, hitting a record number of 357,247 additional employees.

"The government hired 71,000 external employees throughout the 2022-2023 fiscal year, an increase of almost 10% from the previous year. The report also noted that 59.3% of external hires and internal promotions last year were done through non-advertised processes. Since 2014-2015, the share of promotions and new hires that were conducted without advertised postings increased by 21.7%.

"Another notable increase was the dramatic spike in personnel expenditures, up 39.9% since 2021-2022, as reported by the Parliamentary Budget Officer. Spending on professional and special services also increased by 14.7% over that same period.

“'The obvious question from a citizen taxpayer point of view is, "We have 40 per cent more people in government, am I getting 40 per cent faster service?’ I don’t think most people feel that value for money,” Aaron Wudrick, director of domestic policy with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute told the Globe and Mail....

"Additionally, the number of investigations launched by the commission into public servant employees over allegations of improper political activities or other irregularities tripled from 34 in 2021-2022 to 109 last year. The bulk of those investigations were related to alleged errors, omissions or improper conduct regarding the external hiring process, up 66% from the previous year, with investigations into alleged fraud increasing by 40%.

“'The pandemic and the ability to work remotely has created a huge surge in demand for public-sector work. I think that is a good thing, we want it to be highly competitive to work in the public sector,' said Wudrick. 'But that only holds if the government doesn’t continue to just create jobs and inflate the size of the public sector for its own sake.'”
