Let market determine how many workers to let in, Johnson tells NALEO conference (video)

Gary Johnson on Immigration: 'Nativism Is Not an American Value' - Bold - McCall Mishler:

June 23, 2016 - "Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson took a swipe at rival Donald Trump’s immigration stance, defending immigrants as hardworking people during a speech before a group of Latino lawmakers today.

"'Nativism is not an American value,' Johnson told the annual National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO), adding that he thought the marketplace should determine immigration levels, rather than 'special-interest driven caps.'

"At the NALEO conference Johnson said: 'The overwhelming cause of illegal immigration and visa overstays is the fact that our legal immigration process simply doesn’t work, and that we impose absurd caps on various work visas. Let the market, not bureaucrats and special interests, determine how many workers we allow into the country.'

"He went on to say that he believes in reasonable border control and that the United States doesn’t need to recreate the 'Great Wall.' Along with that, Johnson said he thinks that the focus of border enforcement should be more toward the percentage of immigrants who are causing criminal harm."
