Candidate hopes to build support for Libertarians | Timmins Press - Ron Grech:
"Jozef Bauer concedes one of his biggest challenges on the campaign trail is having to explain what the heck a Libertarian is and what the party stands for. Bauer, a resident of Iroquois Falls, is the Ontario Libertarian Party candidate running in Timmins riding.
"'Some people when they hear the party name, they stop listening and think, "Oh, so you’re with the Liberals," and I have to say, "No, we’re Libertarians."'
"Libertarians support free market policies and lowering taxes by reducing both the size and intervening powers of government.
"The party believes, among other things, government should have no authority to impose regulations affecting the production, distribution and sale of any product or service.
"Bauer said a key area of concern for Libertarians is health care. 'Last year, 26,000 people left Ontario and Canada to get health-care elsewhere. That’s jobs that weren’t created in the health-care system. That’s people who couldn’t get the health-care that they deserve here at home. That’s wrong.'
"Bauer said the Libertarian Party supports the idea of people being able to use their OHIP to access private health-care services....
"Another key area of concern to Libertarians is the high cost of electricity in Ontario. Bauer said a Libertarian government would cut individual hydro bills by reducing delivery costs charged to property owners.... Another measure Libertarians would take is removing the debt reconciliation charge on hydro bills.
"Bauer said the three main parties in the province – the Liberals, PC and NDP – encourage voters to maintain the status quo in Ontario [but] contrary to what those three parties claim, 'It’s not all good and it hasn’t been good for a while now. So things need to change. It was on that premise that I decided to run for the Libertarian Party, because we do need change.'"
