The Kochs and the Cato Institute: a hostile takover?

The Kochs and the Cato Institute: a hostile takover? | James Antle | The Guardian:

April 2, 2012 - "Seldom do internecine quarrels among libertarians receive much notice from the outside world. But the battle between the Koch brothers and the Cato Institute's current management for control of Washington, DC's main libertarian thinktank is all the rage. The Washington Post and New York Times have both published riveting accounts of the personalities and principles involved. A 'Save the Cato Institute' Facebook page has attracted more than 5,500 'likes'.... Cato officials have mounted a full-court press arguing that Koch control of the board would reduce the thinktank to an appendage of the Republican party....

"Cato has published papers critical of both the 'war on drugs' and the Bush administration's conduct of the 'war on terror'. While there is no strict party line, many of their scholars have opposed the Iraq war and expressed civil libertarian concerns about the Patriot Act. Cato is sympathetic to open immigration and same-sex marriage. Some of these priorities have sat uneasily with their more conservative Republican donors in the past."

GOP Candidates Hunt for Delegates Before Voting Begins | The Texas Tribune

GOP Candidates Hunt for Delegates Before Voting Begins | The Texas Tribune - Jay Root:

April 4, 2012 - "Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Lake Jackson are ... feverishly working to stack the state convention in June with their supporters, a move that could help increase their influence should the nomination be unresolved by the time the party’s national convention rolls around in late August.

"GOP delegate selection conventions, from the precinct level to counties and Senate districts, are being held across the state, most of them on April 14 and April 21, officials say. The delegates chosen there will go to the state GOP convention in Fort Worth in early June. Republican delegates in Texas are to be awarded to candidates proportionately based on the percentage the candidates get in the May 29 primary — but there are some wrinkles that could allow delegates to switch their allegiance.

"'The Ron Paul campaign is very engaged, inquiring how the process works, organizing turnout,' said GOP chairman Steve Munisteri. 'I see the Santorum people putting together a very active team, and they are working on getting people to turn out to the conventions.'

Munisteri said he hadn’t seen much delegate-recruiting activity from the campaigns of front-runner Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.... 'No sign of them whatsoever,' Munisteri said."

Ron Paul only presidential candidate telling truth about America’s economic woes

NH Best Selling Author Maintains Ron Paul Only Presidential Candidate Telling America the Truth about America’s Economic Woes - Houston Chronicle:

April 3, 2012 - "Best-selling author Barry James Dyke, author of The Pirates of Manhattan and recently released sequel, The Pirates of Manhattan II: Highway to Serfdom, maintains Ron Paul is the only candidate consistently telling Americans the truth about its finances and the role that the Federal Reserve has in America’s decline. http://www.thepiratesofmanhattan.com .

Dyke says, 'Ron Paul is the only candidate addressing the heart of America’s financial woes, the Federal Reserve System. Since the crisis began the Fed has consistently been more interested in bailing out Wall Street rather than Main Street. The Fed, with its zero interest rate policy, has ruined the currency through inflation by turning the central bank into a printing press, a long used trick of fallen empires.' The author continues, 'Dr. Paul is the only candidate addressing the core economic issues facing America; unsustainable wars, bankruptcy of the country, debauchment of the currency, corporate welfare, and a collapsed middle class'."
