"Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, spoke to several hundred people inside Tangeman University Center’s Great Hall.... It’s part of a tour of about 20 universities for Johnson, who wore jeans and a T-shirt with a peace sign on it.....

"Johnson was not impressed with the debate Wednesday night between President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney, calling it 'much ado about nothing.

“'Elect either one and I’m going to suggest we’ll find ourselves in a heightened police state that needs to be rolled back,' he said."

Root still identified as Libertarian in media

October 4, 2012 - On September 6, former Libertarian Party vice-presidential candidate Wayne Allyn Root resigned all of his positions in the Libertarian Party, Libertarian National Committee (LNC), and Libertarian National Campaign Committee (LNCC), in order to endorse and campaign for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. However, a month later, Root is still being identified in the media as chairman of the LNCC.

For example, the biography appended to Root's October 4 FOX News opinion piece, "Mitt Romney is the smartest guy in the room," reads: "Wayne Allyn Root is a capitalist evangelist and serial entrepreneur. He is a former Libertarian vice presidential nominee. He now serves as chairman of the Libertarian National Campaign Committee. October 4, 2012 - "Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson's campaign is accusing the Pennsylvania Republican Party of illegally [trying to keep] him off the state's ballot.

"Specifically, the Johnson campaign alleges that the party hired a private investigator to pose as a FBI officer and visit people who had gathered signatures for them, offering them $2,000 in exchange for saying in court that the petitions they had gathered were falsified.

"The Johnson campaign's general counsel Alicia Dearn ... names a few witnesses who she says were notaries paid off by the state party to falsely confess that the petitions weren't real. All in all, the Republican party ended up contesting 40,000 of the Johnson campaign's claimed 50,000 signatures.

"A spokeswoman for the district attorney's office didn't respond to a request for comment about whether or not they had opened an investigation.

"'The claims are baseless,' said Pennsylvania Republican Party spokeswoman Valerie Caras in an email.... 'This is simply a distraction from their own questionable activities.'"

September 21,2012 - "Former congressman Virgil Goode Jr. will remain on Virginia’s presidential ballot after state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II concluded an investigation into fraud allegations leveled at Goode by the state Republican Party.... Republicans in Virginia and other states have sought to keep him off the ballot out of concern that he might take votes from Mitt Romney....

"A Washington Post poll of Virginia released this week showed Goode getting 2 percent support among registered voters, while Libertarian Gary Johnson got 4 percent and Green Party nominee Jill Stein took 1 percent.

"The Virginia State Board of Elections ruled in early September that Goode had qualified for the ballot after he submitted more than 20,500 signatures to the board. State law requires candidates to submit a minimum of 10,000 valid signatures, including at least 400 from each of Virginia’s 11 congressional districts.

"But the state Republican party filed a challenge to Goode’s submission, and party Chairman Pat Mullins contended that there were 'systemic problems' among Goode’s signatures that showed a “stunning disregard” for state law. Goode called the allegations 'ludicrous.'"

October 1, 2012 - "At least two of the original sponsors of the 2012 presidential debates have pulled their support over the exclusion of Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson, arguing that the commission which runs the debates is locked into a two-party outlook....

"Multinational corporation Philips Electronics and the women's organization the YWCA both dropped their sponsorship after being flooded with E-mails and letters from supporters of former Republican New Mexico Gov. Johnson, as well as two election watchdog groups, Open Debates and Help the Commission.

"'I've been trying this since 2004 ... and this is first time any sponsor has peeled off from supporting the commission,' says George Farah of Open Debates, who wrote the book No Debate: How the Republican and Democratic Parties Secretly Control the Presidential Debates. 'For this to happen on the eve of the first presidential debate is a remarkable act.'

"The Commission on Presidential Debates, which runs the debate logistics, didn't immediately respond to request for comment."

October 1, 2012 - "The Free and Equal Elections Foundation announced that four U.S. 2012 presidential candidates have confirmed their participation in the upcoming presidential debate at the University Club of Chicago on October 23.

"Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode, and Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson are the ones who have confirmed their participation so far, even as the FEEF invited the top six presidential candidates of 2012, including Democratic incumbent President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee.

"'The four candidates participating represent a nice balance of right and left leaning candidates,' said Christina Tobin, chair of the FEEF. 'This debate will cover the real issues facing our country such as foreign policy, the economy, and civil rights, rather than topics that further divide us,' she added."
