August 6, 2012 - "Gary Johnson, the national Libertarian Party nominee for president, has turned in enough signatures to qualify for Maine’s presidential ballot. Volunteers for Johnson ... submitted the petitions to qualify him on Friday. Johnson needed between 4,000 and 6,000 signatures; his supporters turned in 4,355, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
Johnson is the first — and likely the only — non-party presidential candidate to turn in the needed petitions to qualify for the November ballot in Maine. Other campaigns have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 15.... Johnson will appear as a non-party candidate in Maine, where only the Democrats, Republicans and Green-Independents are official parties."
