May 17. 2012 - "US Representative Ron Paul made a rare appearance on Capitol Hill Wednesday after announcing he was winding down his presidential campaign, saying he was not mulling a third-party White House run.
"'I don't have any plans to do that,' the veteran Republican told AFP in brief comments after joining other congressmen in support of a defense authorization amendment.
"When pressed if he had unequivocally ruled out such a run, he reiterated that he had no plans to join another ticket or launch an independent bid. 'That's what I've been saying for six months,' he said.
"On Monday, Paul announced he was suspending all active campaigning, clearing the way for the Republican flagbearer Mitt Romney to become the party's nominee to challenge President Barack Obama in November.
"But the Libertarian-leaning Paul, a passionate defender of constitutional principles and small government, said his campaign will continue to pursue all-important delegates to the Republican convention in Tampa, Florida in late August."
