Ron Paul Campaign and Supporters Ready for Dueling Events in Tampa | Sunshine State News

Ron Paul Campaign and Supporters Ready for Dueling Events in Tampa | Sunshine State News - Kevin Derby:

June 30, 2012 - "U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, plans to end his bid for the Republican presidential nomination with an event ... on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the University of South Florida’s Sun Dome in Tampa.... The Paul campaign labeled the event a 'major rally' that will bring out “thousands of supporters" to the Sun Dome, which holds 11,000 seats.

"Paul’s event conflicts with the Paul Festival, an event held by supporters of the candidate at the Florida State Fairgrounds running from Friday, Aug. 24, through the weekend, featuring speakers – including Libertarian Party presidential nominee former Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico – and entertainment. While Paul has been invited by organizers of the Paul Festival to attend the event, he has not committed to it."

"While the maverick Texas congressman shows no signs of attending the Paul Festival, organizers ... show no signs of slowing down their preparations to hold it. On Friday, the team behind the Paul Festival announced that noted author and businessman Peter Schiff, who ran in the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut in 2010, will be speaking at the event."

Mass. GOP deals dirty - BostonHerald.com

Mass. GOP deals dirty - BostonHerald.com - Michael Graham:

June 27, 2012 - "Evan Kenney was a senior at Wakefield High School when, inspired by a politically active teacher, he decided he’d like to become a delegate to the Republican National Convention.... He got on the phone and started organizing local voters — registered Republicans all — who shared his libertarian, small government, isolationist foreign policy views. He even convinced them to spend a Saturday morning in April ... sitting through boring political speeches so they could vote for him.

"Kenney won, receiving more votes than the two former GOP gubernatorial candidates he was running against, Charlie Baker and Kerry Healey.

But in the end, it’s Baker and Healey who are going to Tampa as delegates to the RNC.... Why? Because the state GOP cheated."

Ron Paul's 'Audit The Fed' bill clears House committee

Ron Paul's 'Audit The Fed' Bill Passes House Oversight Committee - Business Insider - Grace Wyler:

June 27, 2012 - "Ron Paul is finally gaining support for his beloved Audit The Fed bill.
The bill, H.R. 459, passed the House Oversight Committee this morning on a voivote, with no vocal opposition.... Here's Paul's statement on the vote:

"'I am very happy that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform today passed H.R. 459. The bill passed unanimously by voice vote, with all of its strong audit provisions intact. It is time for the Federal Reserve to face a thorough audit of its monetary policy and lending operations. The Fed’s purchases of dubious assets from favored Wall Street institutions; its lending of hundreds of billions of dollars to foreign governments and central banks; and the prospect of further quantitative easing and European bailouts underscore the critical need for transparency. I am deeply appreciative of the overwhelming support this legislation has received from my colleagues in the House, especially today from the Oversight Committee. I look forward to seeing my Audit the Fed legislation passed by a bipartisan majority of Congress next month.'"

Michigan LP files suit to get Gary Johnson on ballot

Ballot Access News » Blog Archive » Michigan Libertarian Party Files Lawsuit to Get Gary Johnson on the Ballot:

June 25, 2012 - "On June 25, the Michigan Libertarian Party filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Detroit, seeking an order requiring the Michigan Secretary of State, Ruth Johnson, to list Gary Johnson on the ballot as the Libertarian presidential nominee.....

"The Secretary of State said on May 3 that she would not print Johnson’s name on the November ballot because his name had appeared on the Republican presidential primary ballot in February this year. Johnson had tried to withdraw but the Secretary of State says his withdrawal was received three minutes too late. There are very few precedents for a case like this, because no state has ever before told a ballot-qualified party that it will not list its actual presidential nominee on the grounds that the actual presidential nominee had run in the presidential primary of some other party. "

Romney campaign ousts Ron Paul delegates - Metro - Boston Globe

Romney campaign ousts Ron Paul delegates - Metro - Boston Globe - Stephanie Ebbert:

June 24, 2012 - "Evan Kenney was one of 17 delegates and alternates disqualified by a Republican committee deciding who gets to represent Massachusetts Republicans at the national convention in Tampa. Kenney and others had failed to deliver in time an affidavit swearing, under the penalty of perjury, that they would support Mitt Romney’s nomination for president.

"An affidavit is never mentioned in the Republican Party’s rules for selecting delegates and has never been required of delegates in the past, GOP critics say. Suspicions are steep this year because Kenney and the others are supporters of Ron Paul.... The delegates must vote for Romney, based on his strong primary win in Massachusetts, but Paul’s supporters hope to use the convention to draw attention to his agenda, including auditing the Federal Reserve and requiring wars to be declared by Congress.

"In Massachusetts, Paul’s Liberty Slate swept the Republican caucuses in April.... Some libertarian-leaning delegates balked at the notion of signing legal affidavits.... Many later submitted them, but not until after the deadline.... As a result, the committee disqualified them, winnowing the number of Liberty delegates and alternates to the convention from 35 to 19."
