Donnelly explains libertarianism to the voter

Less government is main focus for Libertarian candidate Darcy Neal Donnelly: James Morgan, The Review:

October 1, 2019 - "The best government is very little government, according to Darcy Neal Donnelly. The Libertarian Party of Canada candidate in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell has been part of a combination of three federal and provincial elections in the past.

“'There’s only so many laws our country needs,. said Donnelly. He explained that the only necessary laws are for protecting individual rights, freedoms, and markets. The Libertarian Party supports having police, courts and the military for the purpose of protection, and not control....

"Donnelly explained that the government has given big corporations the right to pollute and that property rights should be the basis of environmental protection.  He said that the environment would be better protected by private owners who had to take responsibility for it, including for environmentally significant places like national parks.

"When asked about ethics issues like the SNC Lavalin scandal, Donnelly said problems like corruption occur when governments and corporations are too big.  He ... strongly criticized the spending of taxpayer dollars on 'corporate welfare.'  As an example, he referred to the $18 million in support the Trudeau government announced over the summer for Heico, the American parent company of Ivaco Rolling Mills in L’Original.

"According to Donnelly, Canada has a mixed economy containing some free markets.... The Libertarian Party wants a free market for everything....

"Donnelly said the Libertarian Party would end the federal income tax for everyone and the government’s sources of revenue would be through trade and voluntary gifts.  Health care and social services for the less fortunate could be provided through benevolent organizations.  He highlighted how successful private institutions such as Shriners Hospitals are, as an example.

"Libertarians see themselves as influencers on other parties, said Donnelly.  He said the party is not totally dedicated to some day governing, but tries to influence existing candidates and parties with its ideas.  He said the People’s Party of Canada, led by Maxime Bernier has ideas that represent 80 per cent of what the Libertarians have been recommending, and he is pleased that they have had that influence on Bernier’s party."

Libertarian driver enters Ontario election race in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell

Darcy Neal Donnelly is driving to be the first Libertarian MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. - The Review.ca:

April 16, 2018 - "Allen Small, Leader of the Ontario Libertarian Party, is pleased to accept Darcy Neal Donnelly as the candidate in Glengarry Prescott Russell for the provincial election on June 7, 2018.... Donnelly, 57, a truck driver .... is married [with]three children ... and they have owned their home in Fournier since 2000. He enjoys driving trucks because it gives him a 'feeling of being free in an unfree world'”. He drove into politics as a protest....

''It was the during the economic crisis of 2008 that he became politically irritated by all the corporate bailouts at taxpayers expense.  Donnelly doesn’t believe people’s taxes should fund special interest corporate welfare programs. During the 2011 federal election, Donnelly discovered the Libertarian Party of Canada through the internet. He agreed with its stated principles and policies and he contacted the federal Libertarian candidate.... The next day, he asked how to become a candidate in order to help create a greater awareness of the Libertarian Party.

"Donnelly was the first Libertarian candidate in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry ... one of 14 Libertarians in Ontario.... Donnelly ran again in the 2011 provincial and there were 51 Libertarian candidates across Ontario. In the 2014 election, he ran as the Libertarian candidate in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell and there were 73 Libertarians. Today, according to the party’s website (libertarian.on.ca), the Ontario Libertarian Party has 124 individuals (full slate) assigned as candidates for the June 7 provincial election, including Darcy Neal Donnelly for Glengarry Prescott Russell.

"The Ontario Libertarian Party (Gold) offers to increase your individual control over your own life, including greater personal and economic freedoms compared to the BORG (Blue, Orange, Red, Green) party’s offerings of greater government controls over you. Libertarians seek to increase non-government delivery of services to help reduce the cost of living and working in Ontario. The party’s 2018 Platform is available here: libertarian.on.ca/2018/platform."

Donnelly has resisted government since childhood

Resisting government since childhood - The Cornwall Standard Freeholder - Ontario - Greg Peerenboom:

Oct. 1, 2011 - "Provincial Libertarian Party candidate Darcy Neal Donnelly remembers a childhood scrape with the Canadian Army, no less, that shaped his outlook on life.... 'I've been running away from the government all my life,' he said, joining the dots from his army 'skirmish' to now.

"But Donnelly has turned around and decided to make a stand, becoming a libertarian only within the last six months.... When the spring federal election was called, he expressed apathy for the other parties.... But he researched deeper into the so-called fringe parties, and discovered the Libertarians.... 'I told them I wanted to spread the word,' he said, rationalizing the campaign is [more] about publicity than about winning....

"He said Libertarians would make it illegal for a government to create currency or deposits that exceed the value of economic assets.

"Donnelly points out that government has made people into slaves through the value of government currency. Instead, he said people should have the freedom to choose how they would be paid.

"For example, he said it's wrong for the government to stipulate that gold is not to be used as compensation for work.

"Government's involvement in daily lives, he said, is strangling society.

"Small business owners, in particular, are left to deal with hours of red tape, siphoning off energy better used for operating the business."

Ontario Libertarian wants to reduce government, taxes

Ontario Libertarian candidate wants to reduce government, taxes - Cornwall, Ontario - Our Hometown:

D'arcy Neil Donelly - Ontario Libertarian Party :

Cornwall - Sep. 9, 2011 - "What are the big issues driving Ontario Politics today? It's a good thing that we have 13 registered competing political parties within Ontario, because competition creates options....

"Please allow me to throw in our Libertarian big issues (platform). We want to reduce government, reduce taxes and return to all citizens their own freedom to create their own monies.....

"Each individual has a big issue of their own. Each person is driving their own political issue. It is up to the individual person to engage themselves in their own political freedom. During this election campaign, voters and non-voters have an excellent opportunity to drive their big issue to us competing party candidates."

Trucker took on big government in election

Let Freedom Ring: Trucker took on Big Gov't in election - Today's Trucking, the truck news site:

May 12, 2011 - "Trucker Darcy Neal Donnelly may have been the only candidate in this month's federal election who was inspired by the Canadian rock group Trooper to run for public office.

"The cement truck driver from eastern Ontario was motivated to 'raise a little hell' for the Libertarian Party in the riding of Stormont-Dundas and South Glengarry.

'If you know the song "Raise A Little Hell", you'll know it has motivating lyrics,' he says. 'They say, If you don't like what you got, why don't you change it? If your world is all screwed up, then rearrange it. If you see something wrong, why don't you right it.

"'Well, I see something wrong, and I'm doing something about it. I'm protesting in a non-violent way.'"
