Poilievre and Peterson: Trudeau is lying

Pierre Poilievre and Jordan Peterson push back on Justin Trudeau's claims about them made under oath at Canada's foreign interference inquiry.

October 16, 2024 - "Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre wasted no time calling out the prime minister for claiming it’s the Conservatives who are acting on behalf of foreign governments.... Trudeau testified under oath Wednesday that the Conservatives either are complicit in or vulnerable to foreign interference.

"Within an hour after reports of Trudeau’s accusations were published, Poilievre issued a statement saying that Trudeau is lying and if he wants to support his baseless claim, he should 'release the names of all MPs that have collaborated with foreign interference. But he won't, because Justin Trudeau is doing what he always does. He is lying,' wrote Poilievre, asserting his theory the prime minister lied to 'distract from a Liberal caucus revolt against his leadership and revelations he knowingly allowed Beijing to interfere and help him win two elections.'

"The Tory leader said he was briefed on October 14 by Nathalie Drouin, national security and intelligence advisor to the Prime Minister, David Morrison, deputy minister of foreign affairs at Global Affairs Canada and CSIS Director Daniel Rogers on foreign interference from India — under the CSIS Act, which allows any Canadian citizen to be privy to 'specific risks of foreign interference without forcing them into sworn secrecy or controlling what they say.'

"Poilievre slammed Katie Telford, Trudeau’s chief-of-staff, for making the case during the China Inquiry Tuesday that receiving a secret briefing would 'prevent a recipient from using the information in any manner'.... 'Furthermore,' wrote Poilievre, 'my chief of staff has recently received classified briefings from the government. At no time has the government told me or my chief-of-staff of any current or former Conservative parliamentarian or candidate knowingly participating in foreign interference. If Justin Trudeau has evidence to the contrary, he should share it with the public ... but he won't, because he is making it up.'"

Foreign interference: Trudeau and Poilievre face off over testimony | The Current | CBC News | October 17, 2024:

Peterson gears up to ‘add to Trudeau’s troubles' after baseless Russia allegations | Western Standard | Jen Hodgson

October 21, 2024 - "Canadian psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson has been peppering Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with tweets calling for him to produce evidence to substantiate his claims about Russian media. While testifying Wednesday at the Commission on Foreign Interference, Trudeau alleged Peterson, along with American journalist Tucker Carlson, received funding from Russian media. He provided no evidence to substantiate his claims....

"Peterson last week said he was considering launching a defamation lawsuit against the prime minister. Over the weekend — in addition to trolling Trudeau by generating AI images of himself wearing Russian hats — Peterson told the prime minister he is about to add to his pile of ongoing troubles....

"'Hey Justin! I know you have your troubles at the moment,' wrote Peterson on Twitter ('X'). 'And I am soon going to add a lot more. I promise you. But for now, WHERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE? Or do you think it's OK to lie about me shamelessly while essentially testifying. Even though I am working tirelessly to uncover the very interference you are not bright or competent enough to identify or understand?'”

Conservatives, Jordan Peterson on Trudeau's foreign interference list

During sworn testimony to Canada's foreign interference inquiry last week, Prime Minister Trudeau dropped a couple of bombshells:
(1) unnamed Conservative MPs or Senators are inovlved in foreign interference for unnamed countries;
(2) Toronto psychologist and internet personality Jordan Peterson is being funded by Russian state broadcaster Russia Today.

Trudeau tells inquiry some Conservative parliamentarians are involved in foreign interference | CBC News | Elizabeth Thompson:

October 16, 2024 - "In astonishing testimony before the foreign interference inquiry Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that he has the names of Conservative parliamentarians who are involved in foreign interference. Trudeau told the inquiry that he instructed the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) to warn Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre in order to protect the party's integrity.

"'I have the names of a number of parliamentarians, former parliamentarians and/or candidates in the Conservative Party of Canada who are engaged, or at high risk of, or for whom there is clear intelligence around foreign interference,' he said. 'And I have directed CSIS and others to try and inform the Conservative Party leader to be warned and armed, to be able to make decisions that protect the integrity of that party, of its members, from activities around foreign interference.' The term 'parliamentarian' can refer to senators or members of the House of Commons.

"Later, under questioning by Nando De Luca, lawyer for the Conservative Party, Trudeau said the names of Liberal parliamentarians and individuals from other parties are also on the list of parliamentarians."

Poilievre CALLS OUT TRUDEAU's blatant lies about foreign interference | Stand on Guard | Krayden's Right with David Krayden | October 17, 2024:

What did Justin Trudeau say about Tucker Carlson and Jordan Peterson during election interference testimony? | indy100 | Liam O'Dell:

October 18, 2024 - "As Canada’s Foreign Interference Commission continues its inquiry into other countries’ involvement in its democratic processes, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave evidence under oath on Wednesday (16 October) which saw him name right-wing commentators Jordan Peterson and Tucker Carlson as media figures funded by Russian state media.

"Set up in September 2023, the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions has already published an initial report in which it named China as a 'main perpetrator of foreign interference' against Canada. The May report also pointed to Russia, India, Pakistan and Iran as 'possible foreign interference actors' but said of Russia that it is 'likely not currently a significant foreign interference threat' to Canada’s federal elections.... The inquiry has now turned its attention to the capacity of federal bodies to 'detect, deter and counter' foreign interference, which explains PM Trudeau being asked to give evidence.

"During his cross-examination by lawyer Guillaume Sirois ... Trudeau was shown multiple headlines from Russia Today – a broadcaster funded by the Russian state – relating to the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protests of 2022 concerning Covid vaccine requirements placed on Canadian long-haul truck drivers.

"Following this, Trudeau commented: 'We have seen that anti-vaxx messages during the convoy and pandemic were amplified by Russian propaganda, especially in the media of the right.... As I’ve said, we’ve recently seen that RT is currently funding bloggers and other personalities of the right such as Jordan Peterson - other names that are well-known are Tucker Carlson, as well - in order to amplify messages that are destabilising democracies.'”

No experts found to re-educate Jordan Peterson

Almost two years after ordering Dr. Jordan Peterson to undergo social media re-education, the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario has not been able to find a social media expert to re-educate him.

Jordan Peterson: Alas, no re-educator to be found | National Post | Jordan Peterson:

October 11, 2024 - "It may amuse all of you who have become somewhat cynical in recent years to hear what has most lately become of my battle with the tyrants of compassion and masters of incompetence at the Ontario College of Psychologists and (more recently) Behaviour Analysts — a recent unnecessary change.... I have been scheduled for an indefinite course of professional education by appointees of that institution for expressing my opinions in a country that apparently no longer considers that acceptable for its professionals (depending, of course, on the opinions). I appealed that decision, to the highest court in the land — a legal entreaty that was rejected as of Aug. 27.

"A few days after that I sent in a request to the powers that be at the college, requesting, in all due humility, the names of the wizards or witches who stood at the ready to re-educate me:... I had been previously provided with a document that listed the 'social media experts' at the ready to perform their magical incantations on my recalcitrant psyche — despite the fact that there is no such profession as 'social media expert'.... One problem remained, and a serious one, indeed, practically speaking: the very lines in the document that contained the identifying information of the experts (names, email addresses, professional standing, and telephone numbers) had been redacted, no doubt to protect their fragile and hoping-to-be anonymous selves against the reactions of the legions of reactionary trolls I would unleash in my indefensible efforts to defend myself.

"A response was soon forthcoming, in written form: due to some (conveniently undescribed) administrative confusion, the names were presently unavailable. The good people at the college were, however — in their great benevolence and wisdom — willing to extend my three-month purgatorial period, perhaps indefinitely (?), while the necessary information was rounded up and provided.

"A few weeks hence their lawyers contacted my lawyers and informed the latter and me that a settlement offer might be possible.... Their first offer was (get this — and I still can’t believe it): 'If Dr. Peterson agrees to resign, we would be willing to forego the legal costs the court ruled he owes us!' That was some two dozen thousands of dollars, a not inconsiderable sum (although a mere pittance in comparison to what their decade-long campaign of harassment and petty torment has cost me — some 25 times that amount in direct legal fees alone, an amount sufficient to bankrupt the typical target of their inquiry, particularly in combination with the devastation of professional income that all-too-often accompanies such inquisition. Thus, their opening gambit was based on the assumptions (1) that I could be bought and (2) that I could be bought cheaply....

"After we dispensed with that offer, ... the truth came so painfully out — and this is the main point of this missive: despite pursuing me for nearly 10 years; despite their endless public proclamations about their readiness to dispense justice upon me; despite their insistence of the mavens of the college that I was in desperate need of pretty much a comprehensive psychic restructuring and public shaming — despite my agreement, private and public, to go ahead with exactly that, in pillories and stock, accepting the tar and chicken feathers — there was not a single available 'social media expert' available at hand to take on the task!

"This could be a consequence of a direct warning I had made in a very public discussion about this matter with my daughter Mikhaila Fuller, posted on my YouTube channel, where I said (with all due and genuine concern for my hypothetical teacher) something approximating: 'Don’t take the job! I will make EVERY BIT OF IT public, and in the most broadly distributed sort of way! Millions of people are hungry to watch me be re-educated, friend and foe alike, popcorn in hand, eating up both the scandal and the snack. In consequence, the life of whomsoever is narcissistic, clueless or ideologically-addled enough to take on the task will never be the same!' I don’t know, of course, if it was that specific warning that did the trick....

"So, that’s where we stand, Canadians.... I will sign off, finally, with this.

"I made the college a fair offer, very publicly.... There was no evidence whatsoever in the consequent approach of the college negotiators to me that they had considered anything I had written.... This is yet more evidence, if evidence is needed, of their essential bad faith and intransigent, punitive, self-righteous bureaucratic stubbornness and blindness. They approached me, instead, with the ultimate in foolishness, compounding their errors.... Then they admitted that they did not have the wherewithal or the ability to undertake administering the very re-education process they have so publicly and continually demanded I submit myself to. God only knows how it will all end. But it certainly appears, as of the current moment, that the much-vaunted and much-moralized-publicly-about re-education efforts of the Ontario College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts have been brought to a shuddering and shameful halt, not least because of the utter indefensibility of their own position."

Peterson's appeal of retraining order dismissed

Ontario's Court of Appeals has dismissed psychologist Jordan Peterson's appeal of a lower court decision that the provincial regulatory body can subject him to mandatory social media re-education.

Peterson warns Canada not a free country after appeal dismissed | Western Standard | Jen Hodgson:

January 17, 2024 - "Psychologist and best-selling author Jordan Peterson declared Canada is not a free country after losing his appeal of a mandatory re-education case in the Ontario Court of Appeal.... The court denied Jordan Peterson’s motion to have the College of Psychologists of Ontario’s mandatory re-education ruling overturned on Tuesday. A panel of three judges made the decision, with no reasons given.

"None of the complaints against Peterson, who was a professor at the University of Toronto until 2017, were filed by a former patient or student, but from those who took offence to comments he made online.... Based on allegedly offensive comments Peterson made on social media and Joe Rogan’s podcast, the college said he would have to undergo a mandatory social media retraining program for an undetermined amount of time, paid for out of his pocket and by a trainer appointed by them in order to maintain his licence.

"The  Ontario Divisional Court said in August the college was allowed to uphold the decision. Peterson appealed, which led to the ruling announced Tuesday. Peterson’s lawyer Howard Levitt told the National Post this was the last chance for appeal — he lamented the loss of free speech in Canada and said he thinks the case will set a precedent “licensing regulatory bodies to be more aggressive.”

“'Is there free speech in Canada?' Levitt said. 'To what extent are the limits on free speech in Canada, to free speech which is not criminal or not tortious, not a violation of any law? To what extent are regulated professionals and regulated trades impacted in terms of what they can say in the public forum? These are important issues and Canada has been castigated broadly for the decision of the divisional court,' the attorney said.

"The 18-page court decision included an explanation and more details on the training than were previously given, including a set time frame. Peterson is required to begin the training within three months and it will last up to 12 months. 'Requiring coaching following apparently unheeded advice seems a reasonable next step, proportionately balancing statutory objectives against Charter rights which are minimally impaired, if they are impaired at all, by the (college’s decision to require coaching),' the document states.

"Peterson’s comments in question include tweets made about Sports Illustrated's plus-size model campaign being 'not beautiful,' and about the surgeon that removed the breasts of transgender actor Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page. Peterson, who has sounded the alarm on transgender surgeries in the past, said Page 'had her breasts removed by a criminal physician'....  Peterson was [also] accused of not taking climate change or COVID-19 mandates seriously and posting 'aggressive' comments about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and specifically, Trudeau's long-time friend and former principal secretary Gerald Butts, who was entrenched with Trudeau in the SNC Lavalin scandal in 2018.

"When the mandatory training was issued, Peterson refused to participate, and asked the courts to review his case. He said his speech on public platforms was outside the purview of the college’s authority.... The Ontario Divisional Court ruled in August [that] though Peterson didn’t break any laws, he was outside the rules in place for the regulated profession of practicing psychologists.... [T]he court documents state ... 'The order is not disciplinary and does not prevent Dr. Peterson from expressing himself on controversial topics.'"

Peterson can be ordered to take social media training, Ontario court rules

Ordering Dr. Jordan Peterson to undergo social media training at his own expense is a justified breach of his Charter right to free expression, a provincial court has ruled.

Ontario court rules against Jordan Peterson, upholds social media training order | CBC News:

August 23, 2023 - "An Ontario court ruled against psychologist and media personality Jordan Peterson Wednesday, and upheld a regulatory body's order that he take social media training in the wake of complaints about his controversial online posts and statements. Last November, Peterson, a professor emeritus with the University of Toronto psychology department who is also an author and media commentator, was ordered by the College of Psychologists of Ontario to undergo a coaching program on professionalism in public statements.

"That followed numerous complaints to the governing body of Ontario psychologists, of which Peterson is a member, regarding his online commentary directed at politicians, a plus-sized model, and transgender actor Elliot Page, among other issues.... The college's complaints committee concluded his controversial public statements could amount to professional misconduct and ordered Peterson to pay for a media coaching program — noting failure to comply could mean the loss of his licence to practice psychology in the province. Peterson filed for a judicial review, arguing his political commentary is not under the college's purview.

"Three Ontario Divisional Court judges unanimously dismissed Peterson's application, ruling that the college's decision falls within its mandate to regulate the profession in the public interest and does not affect his freedom of expression. 'The order is not disciplinary and does not prevent Dr. Peterson from expressing himself on controversial topics; it has a minimal impact on his right to freedom of expression,' the decision written by Justice Paul Schabas reads, in part. You can read the entire decision at the bottom of this story.

"Peterson had said his statements were not made in his capacity as a clinical psychologist, but instead were 'off-duty opinions' — an argument the court rejected....

"In an interview with CBC News, Peterson said he will take the training and broadcast it. 'I'll comply with their regulations, but I'm not going to do it in secret... And the reason I'm not going to do it in secret is because I don't believe I've done anything wrong,' he said. Peterson told CBC News in January that he had no intention of giving up his fight with the regulatory body, accusing the college of attempting to stymie his speech and discipline him for his political opinions. He [affirmed] Wednesday he stands by what he has said and has 'zero regrets' for his social media posts. Peterson said he believes the posts are a question of free speech, which he called "sacred," adding he says what he believes to be true....

"He added he no longer treats patients and his career is instead focused on social and political commentary. Similarly, he doesn't regularly lecture at U of T. However, Peterson has said he wants to retain his licence. 'I deserve it. I earned it. I haven't done anything to justify suspending it, and I don't want to give the hyenas their bones,' he said earlier this year.

"The college, in a statement released after the decision was issued, said it is committed to carrying out its mandate of protecting the public interest by regulating the practice of psychology. 'The College will review today's decision and undertake next steps in accordance with our mandate and any appropriate legal processes,' the statement reads.

"Peterson's case was watched closely by free speech advocates and regulators in other professions. It featured interveners including the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and LGBTQ+ advocacy group Egale Canada, which said in a statement from Executive Director Helen Kennedy that communities her organization represents often face discrimination and barriers when accessing healthcare....

"Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) Executive Director Noa Mendelsoh Aviv, meanwhile, said in a statement that the CCLA doesn't endorse Peterson's views, but still argued in court that professional regulatory bodies shouldn't be policing speech that is not directly connected to professional practice. 'Freedom of expression is a right that no individual gives up just because they join a regulated profession,' she said.

"Carolyn Silver, Chief Legal Officer for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario who appeared at the hearing on behalf of the college in its intervention, said the college welcomes the decision.... 'In our view, the decision again confirms that when a regulated health professional breaches expectations set by its regulator, including with respect to public speech, the regulator is best situated to assess and address the potential harm to public trust and confidence in the profession.'"

Jordan Peterson wins 2023 George Jonas Award

Peterson awarded George Jonas Freedom Award for protection of free speech | Western Standard - Shay Bottomley:

March 28, 2023 - "Dr Jordan B. Peterson was awarded the George Jonas Freedom Award for his commitment to protecting freedom of expression. The award from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is named after a Canadian who experienced totalitarian dictatorships firsthand under both fascism and communism before fleeing Hungary in 1956. The ideals of liberty and the free society permeated his writings as an author, poet, and National Post columnist.

"Previous winners include Mark Steyn, Christie Blatchford, Tamara Lich, and the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship.

"This year, Peterson is being recognized for his work in defending free speech following threats of a disciplinary hearing by the College of Psychologists of Ontario [CPO] if he refused to 'submit to mandatory social media communication retraining.' Nearly three months on from his first post about the ultimatum, the 60-year-old continues to challenge the ruling, having recently stated the CPO 'have already exceeded their own deadline with respect to this matter. Despite repeated attempts by [his] lawyers to proceed, they are delaying… They hope people will forget'....

"Peterson will accept the award at the 6th Annual George Jonas Freedom Award dinner in Toronto on June 15, 2023."

"The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is honoured that Dr. Jordan B. Peterson will accept our award at our 6th Annual George Jonas Freedom Award dinner in Toronto.

"Dr. Peterson is committed to defending free expression. In January 2023, he shared that the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) has “demanded that [he] submit to mandatory social-media communication retraining,” or else face a disciplinary hearing, and that the CPO threaten his professional license because of his commitment to free speech. In 2016, he famously stood up to intimidation and 'forced speech' when pressured to use newly invented personal pronouns....

"Peterson is a firm advocate for personal responsibility, which is one of the pillars of the free society. He has consistently displayed courage in the face of adversity, and perseverance in the face of ongoing unjustified attacks against his character and reputation....

"Peterson is an author, psychologist, online educator, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto.  He has written three books, Maps of Meaning, an academic work, presenting a new scientifically-grounded theory of religious and political belief, and the bestselling 12 Rules for Life, and Beyond Order, which have sold more than seven million copies."

US House Republicans investigating Covid's origin

House GOP asks Fauci and dozens of health officials to testify in investigation into Covid origins | CNBC - Spencer Kimball:

February 14, 2023 - "House Republicans have asked former White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony to testify before Congress as they launch a new investigation into the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic. The GOP leaders of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic and Committee on Oversight and Accountability sent a letter to Fauci on Monday requesting a transcribed interview. Fauci said in November that he would cooperate with any oversight hearing in the Republican-led House.....

"'Fauci ... was the public face of the U.S. pandemic response during the Trump and Biden administration. He stepped down from his posts at the White House and at the helm of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in December.

"House Republicans also sent letters requesting testimony from EcoHealth Alliance President Dr. Peter Daszak and former National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins. EcoHealth Alliance provided funding, which originated at NIH, to the Wuhan Institute of Virology to study coronaviruses. The inspector general at the Health and Human Services Department found that EcoHealth Alliance received about $8 million in funding from NIH during 2014 through 2021, according to a report published last month. About $600,000 of that money went directly to the Wuhan Institute of Virology to study the threat posed by bat coronaviruses.

"The study of bat coronaviruses at the virology institute in Wuhan, China, the city where the pandemic first began, has raised suspicions among some scientists and investigators that Covid-19 could have escaped from a lab. But Fauci, Collins and many others have maintained that a natural origin in which the virus spilled over from bats through an intermediate animal into people is more likely....

"In 2021, President Joe Biden ordered U.S. intelligence agencies to provide their analysis on how the pandemic began. Four agencies assessed with low confidence that the pandemic began through natural exposure, while one assessed it was the result of a lab accident. Three other agencies could not agree on either explanation.

"House Republicans on Monday also sent a letter to Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines requesting classified briefings with seven intelligence and law enforcement agencies including the Central Intelligence Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation. They also sent a letter to Health Secretary Xavier Becerra requesting interviews with more than two dozen U.S. health officials.

"Republicans, who won control of the House with a narrow margin in last November’s midterms, had vowed to launch several investigations into the pandemic’s origins, the federal response, and how taxpayer money was spent."

Peterson proposes populist alternative to WEF

Jordan Peterson has plans to start a populist alternative to the World Economic Forum, which he hopes to launch this fall.

Dr Jordan B Peterson Tells Joe Rogan Of Plan For Alternative To World Economic Forum | Daily Wire - Greg Wilson:

January 28, 2023 - "Dr Jordan B Peterson laid out his plan to take on the globalists on 'The Joe Rogan Experience,' telling the podcast king in an extended interview posted Saturday that he is considering starting a populist alternative to the World Economic Forum [WEF]. Peterson told Rogan that he will be gathering a consortium this October/November in London as a kind of rival to the WEF. This group will discuss six questions pertaining to global philosophy and policy. While this first conference will be invite-only, it will be public, and Peterson noted that if successful, he would like to expand yearly.

"Some of the ideas — which are aimed at providing an 'alternative vision of the future … an alternative to that kind of apocalyptic narrative that’s being put forward, at least implicitly, by organizations like the WEF' — are as follows:

  • How to get 'energy and resources at the lowest possible cost, as rapidly as possible, to the largest number of people around the world.'
  • Engaging in a 'pro-human view' of earth stewardship.
  • Putting forward a 'vision on the family policy front to facilitate the encouragement of and the maintenance of longterm, monogamous couples who are child-centered.'
  • And discovering our 'story,' specifically as it relates to “voluntary play” rather than “the spirit of power” ruling.

"Peterson ... also took a clear shot at the globalist group that gathers in Davos to formulate progressive policies to impose on the world.

I’ve been trying to understand the driving ideas underneath this globalist utopian tyranny that seems to be developing from the top-down, and I think it’s driven at least in part by this religious vision that I already described — you know, that you have to construe culture itself, especially industrial culture, as the tyrannical father raping and pillaging everything in its way, which is [an] unbelievably dangerous way to think — too one-sided....

"Peterson blasted the progressive elites, who hint darkly at population controls and push policies that make food and energy expensive for the world’s poor.

>I’ve already felt that I’ve been at war for the last six months, and I would say it’s war because what I observed happening in Europe when I was there last was that … it’s pretty damn clear that the globalist utopians are willing to sacrifice the poor for the sake of the planet, you know, and they’re doing that by cranking energy prices up through the roof, and that means that people die....

"Peterson has clashed with leftist authoritarians in the past, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is a WEF regular. Peterson is also currently sparring with a psychology trade association that sought to sanction him for tweets it deemed offensive. The College of Psychologists of Ontario ordered Peterson to undergo 'social media communications retraining' or face a hearing on the potential suspension of his license to practice clinical psychology. Peterson made it clear he has no intention of submitting to the group’s demand."

Jordan Peterson faces losing license over tweets

After complaints about his tweets, Jordan Peterson has been ordered by the Ontario College of Psychologists to undergo "social-media communication training" on pain of losing his license.

January 4, 2023 - "The practice of psychology in Ontario, and in many other North American and western jurisdictions, is subject to regulation by 'professional colleges' — essentially governmental organizations with a mandate to protect the public from misconduct on the part of physicians, lawyers, social workers, dentists, pharmacists, teachers, architects and many others, including (and most relevant to me) clinical psychologists.

"Anyone anywhere in the world can levy a complaint to these regulatory bodies for any reason, regardless of whether the complainant has had any direct contact with the professional in question. The respective colleges have the responsibility to determine whether each complaint is serious and credible enough to warrant further investigation.... When the college decides to move forward, it is a serious move, essentially equivalent to a lawsuit. The Ontario College of Psychologists in fact recommends legal counsel under such conditions.

"The Ontario College of Psychologists has levied a multitude of such lawsuits against me since my rise to public prominence six years ago (although none at all in the 20 years or so I practised as a psychologist before that).... I have been sentenced to a course of mandatory social-media communication training with the college’s so-called experts (although social media communication training is not a scientific and certainly not a clinical specialty of any standing). I am to do this at my own expense (some hundreds of dollars per hour) and for a length of time that is to be determined only by those retraining me and profiting from doing so. How will this be determined? When those very re-educators — those experts — have convinced themselves that I have learned my lesson, and will behave properly in the future.

"If I agree to this, then I must admit that I have been unprofessional in my conduct, and to have that noted publicly, even as the college insists that I am not required to admit to any wrongdoing. If I refuse — and I have (of course) refused — the next step is a mandatory public disciplinary session/inquiry and the possible suspension of my clinical licence (all of which will be also announced publicly)....

"What exactly have I done that is so seriously unprofessional that I am now a danger not only to any new potential clients but to the public itself? It is hard to tell with some of the complaints (one involved the submission of the entire transcript of a three-hour discussion on the Joe Rogan podcast), but here are some examples that might produce some reasonable concern among Canadians who care about such niceties as freedom of belief, conscience and speech:
  • I retweeted a comment made by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre about the unnecessary severity of the COVID lockdowns;
  • I criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau;
  • I criticized Justin Trudeau’s former chief of staff, Gerald Butts;
  • I criticized an Ottawa city councillor; and
  • I made a joke about the prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern....
"For criticizing our prime minister and his cronies and peers, for retweeting Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the official Opposition in Canada, and for holding and for daring to express reprehensible political views, I have now been convicted by the College of Psychologists of 'harming' people in some manner serious enough to justify my forced re-education. Now that I have refused, I will definitely face further exceptionally public, demanding, time-consuming and expensive disciplinary action, including the suspension of my licence. This, despite the fact that none of the people whose complaints are being currently pursued were ever clients of mine, or even knew clients of mine, or even knew or were acquainted with any of the people they claim I am harming. This, despite the fact (and please attend to this) that half the people who levied such complaints falsely claimed that they had in fact been or currently are clients of mine....

"I’m not complying. I’m not submitting to re-education. I am not admitting that my viewpoints — many of which have, by the way, been entirely justified by the facts that have emerged since the complaints were levied — were either wrong or unprofessional.... And to the College of Psychologists, I issue this challenge: I am absolutely willing to make every single word of this legal battle fully public, so that the issue of my professional competence and my right to say what I have to say and stand by my words can be fought in full daylight."

Jordan Peterson: Open Canada before we wreck it

Open the damn country back up, before Canadians wreck something we can’t fix | National Post - Jordan Peterson:

January 10, 2022 - "Like so many Canadians, I have been unable to see many of the people I love ... for nearly two years. Lockdowns. Restrictions. Limits on personal and social gatherings.... But everything had opened enough, in principle, so flights for such purposes were — in principle — once again possible. My wife and I therefore took the opportunity on the last day of 2021 to fly first to Comox, British Columbia, and then, several days later, to our joint hometown of Fairview, Alberta. However, the airline we had arranged our flights with cancelled/delayed all six flights we had scheduled.... We were delayed by one full day travelling to British Columbia, and then another day travelling to Alberta (and there were further delays on our way home to Toronto). This took quite a chunk out of an eight-day trip. All this from an airline that not so long ago was a model of efficiency.

"Like most people in Canada, and in the broader Western world, my wife and I are accustomed to systems that work. When we booked flights in the past, with rare exceptions, we arrived safely and on time. When we used our banking systems, online, we gained access to our accounts..... And, because we were spoiled Westerners, we expected that such would always and consistently be the case. Why? Because, by and large, our systems worked. Miraculously well. The power (and the heat — it’s forty below here in northern Alberta, and has been for three weeks) always worked. Planes took off and landed on time. Banks were open and effective and honest.

"But there are empty shelves in the grocery stores here in Fairview. The supply chain that provides our food — just in time — [is] severely stressed. While I was here, I spoke with a local restaurateur who operates the pizza place I worked in forty years ago. She is barely hanging on. This is true of most local businesses.

"I was on the phone for three hours trying to sort out a minor banking issue, after being delayed for a full day while flying, after having been delayed in a similar way only four days before. And, because I am an entitled Westerner, accustomed to my privileges, I got whiny about it. I have a banker that takes care of my affairs, and I sent him and his associate a string of complaints about the service I was receiving. They wrote back, apologetically, and told me that they’re barely able to function with the COVID restrictions, the attendant staff shortages (also caused by illness) and their inability to attract new employees — a problem besetting many industries at the moment.... The letter from the bank stopped me and made me think.... It wasn’t just the bank. It was also the airline. It was the empty shelves in the grocery store in northern Alberta.... It was the shopkeepers and small business-people I have spoken with on this trip.

"We are pushing the complex systems upon which we depend and which are miraculously effective and efficient in their often thankless operation to their breaking point. Can you think of anything more unlikely than the fact that we can get instant trouble-free access to our money online, using systems that are virtually graft- and corruption-free?... Can you think of anything more unlikely than fast, reliable and inexpensive jet air travel, nationally and internationally, in absolute safety? Or the constant provision of almost every consumer good imaginable, in the midst of plentiful, varied and inexpensive food?

"These systems are now shaking. We’re compromising them seriously with this unending and unpredictable stream of restrictions, lockdowns, regulations and curfews. We’re also undermining our entire monetary system, with the provision of unending largesse from government coffers, to ease the stress of the COVID response. We’re playing with fire. We’ve demolished two Christmas seasons in a row. Life is short. These are rare occasions. We’re stopping kids from attending school. We’re sowing mistrust in our institutions in a seriously dangerous manner. We’re frightening people to make them comply. We’re producing bureaucratic institutions that hypothetically hold public health in the highest regard, but subordinating all our properly political institutions to that end, because we lack leadership, and rely on ultimately unreliable opinion polls to govern broadscale political policy. I’ve never seen breakdown in institutional trust on this scale before in my lifetime....

"I have spoken with senior advisors to provincial governments in Canada. There is no end game in sight. The idea that Canadian policy is or should be governed 'by the science' is not only not true, it’s also not possible, as there is no simple pathway from the facts of science to the complexities of policy. We are deciding, by opinion poll, to live in fear, and to become increasingly authoritarian in response to that fear. That’s a danger, too, and it’s increasingly real. How long are we going to flail about, hiding behind our masks, afraid to send our children (who are in no danger more serious than risk of the flu) to school, charging university students full tuition for tenth-rate online 'education,' pitting family member against family member over vaccine policy and, most seriously, compromising the great economic engine upon which our health also depends?...

"Enough, Canadians. Enough, Canadian politicos. Enough masks. Enough social gathering limitations. Enough restaurant closures. Enough undermining of social trust. Make the bloody vaccines available to those who want them. Quit using force to ensure compliance on the part of those who don’t. Some of the latter might be crazy but, by and large, they are no crazier than the rest of us.

"Set a date. Open the damn country back up, before we wreck something we can’t fix."

Why the "Intellectual Dark Web" exists

Why the Intellectual Dark Web Had to Go Dark - Foundation for Economic Education - Tyler Brandt:

June 14, 2018 - "Recently, The New York Times ran an exposé on the “Intellectual Dark Web.” The piece profiles all the heavy hitters of the movement: Jordan B. Peterson, Bret Weinstein, Joe Rogan, Dave Rubin, and Sam Harris.... The piece characterizes the Intellectual Dark Web as a shadowy underground of renegade iconoclasts who dare to challenge the orthodoxies of academia and the media [but] glosses over the reason why these thinkers have been ostracized....

"Peterson rose to fame when he controversially criticized a 'humanitarian' bill legally mandating the use of certain pronouns. Bret Weinstein, who happens to be a progressive, was ejected from Evergreen State because he refused to bow to illiberal students calling for a no whites allowed 'day of absence.' Sam Harris rose to popularity after being called gross and offensive by Ben Affleck for criticizing Islamism. After The Young Turks had Sam Harris on their show and Dave Rubin saw how hostile and irrational the host was, Rubin left his job and started The Rubin Report, a show founded on open dialogue.

"What these individuals have in common is that, in the pursuit of truth and free expression, they offended arbiters of politically correct opinion. These thinkers are the new heretics who challenge the religious convictions of society and they are excommunicated in the same way that those who went against the church once were....

"We are selectively choosing which arguments are ok to make by a cabal of politically correct youth, who claim to stand for the oppressed. The world of truth is too dangerous for these vulnerable persons, so we must bubble wrap knowledge as to not harm their sensibilities, so the logic goes. Well, in bubble wrapping the world, we disguise its reality, and that is a surefire way to cause catastrophe. We can’t put blinders on certain corners of the world and expect to come out with a proper understanding of how it functions.

"We can’t select the truth based on offensiveness.... Offense is subjective by nature and largely determined by individual temperament. A claim of subjective emotion can hardly be invalidated. This means that scientific hypotheses are being rejected on claims of subjective emotion instead of meticulous checking....

"We have started concentrating the power of who determines truth in the hands of educational administrators, politicians, and bureaucracies. What we have lost is a dialogue between intellectual community members about what the truth is. When not able to satisfy that need in public institutions, many great thinkers have taken their thoughts to the internet....

"The Intellectual Dark Web exists because many still venerate objective truth. With the rules of truth-proving being rewritten by our institutions, many expelled thinkers continue their pursuit online. It’s a blessing for those who want to have discussions on evolutionary biology, religion, culture, economics, and politics, without any toxic ideology polluting the outlet."

Jordan Peterson and the alt.right

Jordan B. Peterson Is the Furthest Thing from the Alt-Right - Foundation for Economic Education - Dan Sanchez:

January 22, 2018 - "Psychologist and scholar Jordan B. Peterson recently had another surge in media attention.... His ideological critics have reacted defensively by, among other tactics, trying to cast Peterson as an 'alt-right' figure. Having listened to all of the lectures and interviews included in his 37-episode podcast, I can attest that that is a gross mischaracterization.

"For example, ... during the Q&A period following one of his lectures ...  Peterson noted that: 'the identity politics that has been practiced so assiduously and so devastatingly by the left has been co-opted by the right'.... Specifically, he warned against reacting to the identity politics of the left by descending into a white racial identity politics of the right ... 'where we’re making your group identity the most important thing about you. I think that’s reprehensible. I think it’s devastating. I think it’s genocidal in its ultimate expression. I think it will bring down our civilization if we pursue it'.....

"Genocide is one of Peterson’s many scholarly interests.... He has made a deep study of the pathologies that result in genocidal states like the Nazi regime. And he is keen on stressing the much-neglected fact that the Soviet regime was quite as enslaving and murderous as the Nazis. As those regimes demonstrated, Peterson’s claim that identity politics is 'genocidal in its ultimate expression' is no exaggeration....

"Not only is Peterson adamantly opposed to identity politics, but his project is decidedly non-political in nature.... As Peterson said in his response: 'You know, I’ve thought for a long time about a political career, really forever.... And I’ve always decided against it, because it seemed to me that the proper level of analysis with regards to the solution of the problem that we’re facing isn’t political. And that’s why I think it’s a mistake when what I’m doing gets politicized either by me or others.'

"Instead, Dr. Peterson’s prescription for 'how to change the world properly,' as he says, is for each individual to focus on self-improvement: to concentrate, not on political crusades, but on his or her own Hero’s Journey. (Peterson is also an expert exponent of the Jungian psychological interpretation of heroic mythology.) As he put it: 'The way forward through the ideological mess … is to place the individual at the place of paramount importance'....

"Alt-right commenters have accused Peterson of being naive about this. Self-improvement is all well and good, they say, but how is cleaning your room supposed to fend off the leftist barbarians at the gates?

"Such critics don’t understand what Peterson is saying, because they are mired in the mindsets of politics and war. The way of politics and war is to confront an enemy horde by amassing your own horde: whether it be on the battlefield, in street demonstrations, or in voting booths. It is to fight tribal barbarism by tending toward the tribal and the barbaric yourself. But the way of the heroic, civilized individual is to lead by example and to lead by appealing to the interests of those whose behavior you want to influence.

"As opposed to purely political questions, with matters of what is necessary to personally thrive, individuals actually have skin in the game, and so are more open to challenging messages and less likely to cling rigidly to their dogmas.... Someone who embraces individualism, not merely as a political program, but as a way of life, can have tremendous power to persuade and inspire. When others see such model individuals sorting out their lives, living free of the life-debilitating resentments that haunt SJWs and alt-righters alike, and generally thriving, that is a much more powerful argument for individualism than a million sarcastic memes."
